The Department of the Navy is the primary employer at China Lake, California. There is no actual lake there, currently, at least not on the surface. There is speculation there is a huge underground water storage (aquifer) that the Department of the Navy occupies. The common story is that several hundreds of years ago there was an active lake in the area. China Lake is where the Department of Defense has a Naval Research and Development installation. Had there not been a lake present, either superficial or subterraneal, it would be nonsensical for the Navy to have command of that area. There is an existence of secrecy throughout the community of what goes on there. I had no idea what really went on there although I have my suspicions.
